Envirofire
installs and services Amerex automatic fire suppression systems,
primarily designed to combat fat fires in the commercial kitchen
environment. The combination of the restaurant fire suppression
system and an Amerex Model 260 Wet Chemical extinguisher provides
restaurants with a two pronged attack against the threat of business
loss due to cooking operation fires.
Fires involving
cooking materials such as grease, fats and oils, have long been
the cause of property loss, injury and death. These fires are
unlike others due to the unique way in which they develop. This
fact has been recognised for many years by the various standard
institutions, including the National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA) in the USA, the UK’s British Standards Institution
(BSI) and the International Standards Organisation (ISO). As a
result of the special nature of these fires these institutions
are each developing new standards which define a new classification
for cooking oil fire – Class F fires. This new class recognises
the unique nature of modern cooking oil/grease which requires
a cooling effect as well as extinguishing the flames. This is
best obtained using wet chemical extinguishers. Amerex was the
first extinguisher manufacturer to recognise and address the unique
hazards of modern restaurant cooking by developing the Model 260
Wet Chemical Class F ‘Kitchen Use’ fire extinguisher.
